After a weekend with the Eastern Final and a Saturday night in Toronto, the sports calendar doesn’t let up. The Canadiens face three of the league’s more dangerous offences this week, including two at the Bell Centre, and Grey Cup 2026 closes the CFL season next Sunday in Calgary. Here’s everything on the Montreal sports radar from Nov. 9 to 15. As with all our advance previews, NHL standings and stats are as of Oct. 28, and this was written before the weekend’s results.
Canadiens: three tough tests
Montreal was 7-3-2 with 16 points as of Oct. 28, second in the Atlantic, with rookie Jacob Fowler posting a 1.54 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage. Cole Caufield led the team in goals and Lane Hutson in points from the back end. The schedule now turns much harder: two of the West’s most dangerous attacks visit the Bell Centre, with a trip to the Atlantic leaders in between. These are the kinds of games that show whether a strong start is the real thing.
Tuesday, Nov. 10: vs. Minnesota Wild, 7 p.m. (TSN2, RDS)
Minnesota was the class of the Central as of Oct. 28, at 9-3-2 with 20 points. Kirill Kaprizov had 14 goals and 23 points, and defenceman Quinn Hughes had 18 points, 15 of them assists. Matt Boldy and Joel Eriksson Ek add depth up front. Expect a heavy, structured game.
Thursday, Nov. 12: at Boston Bruins, 7 p.m. (TSN2, RDS)
A divisional road game against a Bruins team that led the Atlantic with 19 points in 13 games as of Oct. 28.
Saturday, Nov. 14: vs. Colorado Avalanche, 7 p.m. (Sportsnet East, TVA Sports)
Colorado was 7-5-1 as of Oct. 28, fourth in the Central, but Nathan MacKinnon (22 points), Martin Necas (16) and Artturi Lehkonen (10 goals) make the Avalanche a threat any night. Tickets for both home games are listed on the Bell Centre calendar.
The week ends with a trip to New York to face the Rangers on Monday, Nov. 16. It’s a stretch that will tell us a lot about whether Montreal’s strong October, built on Jacob Fowler’s goaltending, can hold up against elite talent. Keep an eye on captain Nick Suzuki’s status too, since his original two-to-four-week timeline from Oct. 22 runs out this week.
Grey Cup 2026: Sunday in Calgary
The 113th Grey Cup, the CFL’s championship, kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 15 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary at 5 p.m. local time, which is 6 p.m. in Montreal. Gates open at 3 p.m. local time, and the week-long Grey Cup Festival runs from Nov. 11 to 15. The finalists were decided on Nov. 7: the Eastern Final at Molson Stadium and the Western Final in Edmonton, according to the CFL’s playoff schedule.
If the Alouettes won the East, this is the game the city has been waiting for since their 2023 title. Either way, a Grey Cup Sunday is a Montreal tradition: our list of bars to watch the Canadiens works just as well for football.
