Game Day: Habs Host the Sharks Tonight Looking for a Third Straight Win

The Canadiens are back at the Bell Centre tonight at 7 p.m. against the San Jose Sharks, and they’re riding a two-game winning streak. Here’s what to know before puck drop.

Where the Teams Stand (as of October 19)

  • Canadiens: 4-3-1, after back-to-back wins over Buffalo (a shootout on Tuesday and a 4-3 overtime win on Saturday).
  • Sharks: 4-3-1, per ESPN, with San Jose playing in Toronto on Monday night before coming to Montreal, the second night of a back-to-back.

Three Things to Watch

1. Caufield in overtime

Cole Caufield scored twice on Saturday, including the winner 54 seconds into overtime: his 14th regular-season OT goal, a franchise record (AP via ESPN). If tonight goes to three-on-three, you know who to watch. Catch up on the weekend in our weekend recap.

2. The crease

Jacob Fowler made 23 saves on Saturday in his fourth start in five games, while Jakub Dobes has handled the rest of the early workload. Who gets the call tonight is one of the storylines of the young season.

3. A tired opponent

San Jose will be playing on consecutive nights.

After Tonight

The Canadiens head out on a four-game road trip: Chicago (Friday), Winnipeg (Sunday), St. Louis (Oct. 27) and Dallas (Oct. 29), before hosting Pittsburgh on Halloween night.
